Candidate announcement: John Partin

Partin seeks re-election as Public Defender

submitted by John Partin

John Partin has announced his candidacy for re-election as 31st Judicial District Public Defender in the August 4, 2022 general election. Partin was elected to his first eight year term in 2014, having previously been an attorney in private practice while also serving as County Attorney for Van Buren County and City Judge for Morrison, Tennessee.

“I am proud of the work this office has done over the last seven years, and I am excited about the future,” said Partin, noting that during his first term the office has secured two additional state-funded positions, marking the first expansion of the office since its creation in 1990.

“During my term as 31st Judicial District Public Defender, our office has zealously guarded the constitutional rights of every client, successfully placed hundreds of clients in inpatient substance abuse or mental health treatment facilities and treated each person we encounter with respect and dignity. During the last two years, our office worked tirelessly to ensure that no incarcerated client was denied a timely court appearance due to the restrictions placed upon live court appearances by the Tennessee Supreme Court. We pivoted to remote client conferences and court sessions when necessary to ensure that our clients’ rights were protected during these unprecedented times.

"I am happy to announce that I am running for re-election in 2022 to continue to serve the citizens of Warren and Van Buren Counties. I would appreciate your consideration, vote and support.”

Partin and his wife Becky, a counselor at Warren County Middle School, have two children, Amelia and Evelyn. The Office of the 31st Judicial District District Public Defender represents people charged with criminal offenses in Warren and Van Buren Counties who are unable to afford an attorney.
