Covenant tourney to showcase local squads

Want to get a good look at the high school basketball programs in Warren County? Just show up at Covenant Academy Tuesday.

Covenant is holding the Thanksgiving Shootout tournament, which will feature the Lions and the Lady Lions, as well as the Boyd Broncos and Lady Broncos. Franklin Christian Academy is also taking part in the round-robin tournament of games.

Boyd and Covenant have been battling for years for bragging rights locally. Tuesday will give the teams their first chance to gain the upper hand in the friendly local rivalry.

The Lady Broncos, who are 4-0 currently before Monday night's matchup with Lookout Valley, will take on the 2-1 Covenant Lady Lions at 8 p.m. Afterward, the Boyd Broncos (2-2) and Covenant Lions (0-1) will face off at 9:30 a.m.

The programs will then take turns facing off with Franklin Christian Academy. Covenant will face FCA first, with the girls playing at 11 a.m. and the boys matching up at 12:30 p.m.

Boyd will return to the floor at 2 p.m. with the Lady Broncos playing first and the Broncos due up at 3:30 p.m.

There is a chance Boyd and Covenant could clash more than once Tuesday as well. The top two teams from the round-robin will face off in championships games starting at 5 p.m.

The girls championship game will be played first and the boys championship is set for 6:30 p.m.
