First win for Pioneers

The Pioneers and coach Danny Fish picked up their first victory of the year Friday night, winning 47-33 over the Cannon County Lions. Junior guard Treyton Terry had a game-best 17 points and Alex van Vuuren got hot early on the way to 13 points as Warren County broke a six-game skid to start the 2022-23 season.

It was a tale of two quarters for Warren County, the first and the last. The Pioneers got a jump start from a tough press that gave the Lions trouble all night. At the end of one Pioneers led 18-7. That advantage had all but evaporated by the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers had one final kick left in them at home.

The Pioneers flipped the switch again in the fourth as they out scored the Lions 15-5. Terry, who had 6 points in the fourth, sparked the charge with his attacks on the rim and some big plays down the stretch. The run closed out a win the Pioneers needed to hopefully get rolling as the calendar flipped to December.

Warren County's schedule doesn't get any easier the rest of the month. The Pioneers fought hard Tuesday on the road at Stewarts Creek, but fell 64-58. The Pioneers will finish off the week by traveling to down toward Chattanooga Saturday to face off with region opponent Ooltewah.

Here is the scoring from Friday's win over Cannon County: Treyton Terry 17, Alex van Vuuren 13, Kaden Rutledge 5, Nate Elrod 4, Carter Simpson 2, Chase Newby 2, Devin Fish 2, Sawyer Seymour 2
