Jaguars vs. Titans recap
The Tennessee Titans defeated AFC South division rival the Jacksonville Jaguars 33-30 in a high-scoring, fast-pace game. The Tennessee Titans moved to 2-0 and remain in the top spot in the AFC South.
The good
QB Ryan Tannehill is proving his worth: Tannehill threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns on Sunday, continuing to rise from someone with many questions about his worth to being on the verge of elite quarterback status in the NFL. Tannehill had a very impressive QB rating of 145.7. Tannehill found comfort in hitting his tight ends and slot receivers. Jonnu Smith, Anthony Firkser and Adam Humphries combined for a total of 13 catches and 177 yards.
Offensive line: The Titan offensive line only allowed one sack and four quarterback hits in the entire game.
Jonnu Smith standing out: Smith had two touchdowns for the Titans Sunday. Smith is proving to be a standout in this Titans offense.
The Bad
Run defense struggles: The Titan run defense was a tad bit worrisome. The Jaguars have lots of questions in their backfield, using a RB-by-committee offense as they try to find who is the best fit. Rookie James Robinson had 102 yards and a touchdown on just 16 attempts. The Titans run defense allowed an average of 6.1 yards per rush against the Jaguars. Tennessee will need to clean this up if it wants to make another deep run in the playoffs.
Minshew’s career day: The Jaguars quarterback had a career day, racking up 339 yards and three touchdowns. Gardner Minshew was able to consistently find ways to hit his receivers. The Titan cornerbacks seemed to struggle with containing the Jaguar receivers.
Minshew did cough up the ball twice, throwing two interceptions. Rookie standout Kristian Fulton was a bright spot for the Titans at cornerback after getting his first career interception.
Look ahead
In Week 3 the Tennessee Titans will travel to Minnesota to take on the 0-2 Vikings.
