You won't find a list of the best soccer players in Tennessee without Katie Toney on it. She recently added to her impressive resume by being named to The Tennessean All-Midstate team.
Basically any honor that can be bestowed on an athlete has been awarded to Toney over her four-year career at Warren County. She has been named All-District 6AAA four times, All-Region 3AAA four times, won District 6AAA Most Valuable Player three times and was the Region 3AAA MVP in 2020. She’s also a two-time all-state selection and now has been named to the All-Midstate team.
Toney has the game to back up the accolades. She leaves the program as the all-time scoring champion, netting 113 goals over four seasons while also dishing out 57 assists.
Coach Todd Willmore, who has seen every one of Toney's record-setting goals from the sidelines, was ecstatic to see his star honored once again.
"I am very excited Katie was recognized by The Tennessean as one of the midstate's top players. I am not sure everyone realizes how hard Katie works at her craft and how she has dedicated countless hour to improving," said Willmore. "It is refreshing to see her rewarded for her efforts - she is extremely deserving of all the honors she has received."
Toney was thrilled to get the call from The Tennessean and add to her collection of great achievements.
"I feel very blessed to have been recognized as All-Midstate," said Toney. "I could not have done it without the support of Todd Willmore and each and every one of my teammates. I'm looking forward to continuing soccer at the next level. It's a great honor!"
Toney signed with Tennessee Tech back in November and will join the Golden Eagle on the pitch next fall.
