Lady Pioneers sail past Cannon County

After a tough loss on the road to Sparta last week, the Lady Pioneers get their fourth win of the season vs. Cannon County on Friday.
It was bombs away for Warren County in the third quarter, where it went on a rampage to ultimately smash Cannon County 70-36. The Lady Pioneers scored 28 points in the period and rode a wave of hot shooting to another big win.
Shelby Smartt nailed three 3-pointers in the third quarter, including getting things started by getting the home bounce on a corner 3 from right in front of the bench. She would go on to hit another triple from the wing and a pull up from the top of the key as Warren County built a huge advantage.
Brienne Kesley, a long-range gunner off the Lady Pioneer bench, added two 3-pointers in the quarter on her way to a season-high 16 points. Sable Winfree also knocked down a long ball in the period, helping spark the Lady Pioneers after a sluggish start.
The Lady Pioneers didn’t start too hot on Friday, but quickly turned things around. Five minutes into the game, they only had two points on the board, which is very low for this very solid Lady Pioneers team. They then went on an 8-0 run with some great shots by Kyra Perkins, Mia Hobbs and Smartt.
At the half the Lady Pioneers only led 26-21. Luckily for them, their sweet spot is the third quarter. They were lights out in the third quarter and ended up being up by 23 points at the start of the fourth quarter.
Late in the game, Warren County got to cheer on a young member of the program as sophomore Addison Smith scored her first varsity points as a Lady Pioneer. She was a one-time Covenant Lion who had already made some waves in varsity as a youngster, but the Lady Pioneers exploded when she put in a bucket in the red, white and blue Friday at the Dalt.
