O'Connor slams Wiffle House to sweep
Maybe it was the lights the Westwood Wiffleball Association added to Wiffly Field this week. Or perhaps it was having the field in his back yard.
Whatever it was, John Bryan O’Connor channeled his inner Roy Hobbs during Thursday's WWA games. He was a natural at the plate.
O’Connor led Wiffle House to a pair of a wins over Mobile Communion, including a marathon 19-18 game that is the highest scoring contest the league has seen. Wiffle House also won 18-4, improving to 7-5 in the process.
O’Connor went 9-for-10 over the two games, hitting four home runs in the process. The long ball seemed to be contagious for the Wiffle House hitters – and they used it to earn a sweep.
Wiffle House rallied in the bottom of the third in the first game Thursday, needing 13 runs to earn the win. The team hit two grand slams in the frame, one by Devin Mason and another by free agent pickup Michael Benusches. The team’s newest member had a flair for the dramatics, crushing a walk-off granny ball for the win.
The two losses dropped Mobile Communion to 4-6, tied with Dargon Hearts for fifth in the standings.
Dargon Hearts also felt the brooms come after the team Thursday, getting swept by Westwood Gold 6-5 and 11-9. Westwood Gold took over sole possession of fourth place with the sweep, evening its record at 5-5.
Honey Nut Ichiros and Acuna Matata are currently tied for the league lead at 7-3.
Only nine days remains in the regular season and the WWA recently released its playoff schedule. The schedule is shown below in photo images provided by the league.
