Offseason outlook for Titans

Heading into the Offseason

The Tennessee Titans' season came to an end Sunday afternoon as they fell short to the Baltimore Ravens, 20-13, in the wildcard round.

The Titan offense looked like it was going to keep having success after going on a long drive on the second possession of the game and going up 7-0 with a touchdown from AJ Brown over Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey. After this touchdown, the offense struggled the rest of the day. Derrick Henry was limited to 40 yards for the entire game and the nail in the coffin was an interception after the two-minute warning from Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters.

The Ravens defense then began to get pay back by stomping on the Titans logo at midfield like the Titans did early in the season at MT Bank Stadium. At the end of the day, the Titans defense did a good job of limiting the Ravens at hitting big plays but in the end the former MVP quarterback was able to edge out his first playoff win.

Lamar Jackson rushed for a 48-yard touchdown that swung the momentum directly into the Ravens' favor. JK Dobbins also rushed for a four-yard touchdown capping off a long drive in second half. Jackson and WR Marquise Brown were able to establish a good game with hitting on routes in the flats that led to a game-high 109 receiving yards.

In the end, this game wasn't lost on that side of the field for the Titans. The offense’s lack of play and some questionable coaching decisions is what kept the Titans from advancing.

With the offseason officially here, the Titans have some decision to make regarding adding players to the team via the draft and free agency. They also need to address some key coaching positions specifically hiring a defensive coordinator.

What’s next for the Titans?

Hiring a Defensive Coordinator

The Titans need to pick up a defensive coordinator to take over the full reins for coach Mike Vrabel. It was obvious that the Titan defense was the weak point for the year. The defense struggled with giving up the ninth-most points for the year and was ranked 25th in yards allowed. Adding a defensive coordinator could add someone to solely focus on that side of the football and let Vrabel focus on other things.

Retaining Arthur Smith

OC Arthur Smith will be one of the hottest names in the head coaching vacancy market this offseason. Smith had a great season calling plays for one of the best offenses in the NFL. His success with Ryan Tannehill, helping him become a great quarterback, is very appealing for teams.

The Titans should try their best to hold on to Smith to run this offense. The teams looking for head coaches this offseason include: the Lions, Falcons, Texans, Jets, Chargers, Jaguars and Eagles.

Corey Davis

What will happen with receiver Corey Davis? Davis began to show some real progress this season alongside Brown. Davis is set to become a free agent in the offseason and could be looking for a big payday. The Titans will have to decide if the salary makes sense to big Davis a large contract. There could be multiple teams that could offer Davis big time money for his services.
