Pair of aces at country club

Dr. Brad Brock hit a hole-in-one Friday at MCC.

Like Teddy KGB in ‘Rounders,’ the McMinnville Country Club is holding a pair of aces.

Dr. Brad Brock and Zack Malloy each hit hole-in-ones over the weekend, showing off their talents and their knowledge of the local course. Brock‘s big shot came on Friday when he pulled a 6-iron on No. 7. Brock flew the water from the tips, getting a chance to see his shot trickle into the hole.

It was Malloy’s turn to get an ace Saturday. Playing No. 17, Malloy knew the ball was in good shape when he blasted a 5-iron up the hill. He and his group had to wait and see though as the tee box is far below on the 200-plus yard hole.

When Malloy made it to the green, he found out he had recorded his fifth career ace.

“One more and I’ll need two hands,“ said Malloy while holding up five when asked about his career aces.

The spindled shots could be a precursor for things to come at McMinnville Country Club. The Fall Fling will bring the area’s top golfers to the course this weekend. The event is normally played in the spring, but was postponed this year.

Tee times are still being set for the two-player, two-day scramble event. Action begins Saturday, Sept. 5 and winners will be crowned Sunday, Sept. 6.
