CEILEE GUDAT, WCMS PITCHER

Week of April 4-10

For our first athlete of the week, it didn't take long to find a standout. Ceilee Gudat was amazing in the circle for the WCMS Lady Pioneers in back-to-back wins.

Gudat, a seventh-grader, has been a revelation for the Lady Pioneers this season. She may have been at her absolute best during Monday's matchup with White County. Gudat silenced the White County bats, throwing her third no-hitter this season as Warren County won 10-0.

Armed with a fastball that is close to touching 60 MPH, along with a filthy changeup that leaves batters swinging at air, Gudat mowed down White County. She had eight strikeouts in the contest, two shy of her season high - and it may have been broken if the Lady Pioneers didn't enact the mercy rule before the final inning could be played. More impressively, Gudat was pounding the strike zone, allowing just one walk.

"It all started with hitting our spots pitching. Ceilee was really good in the circle," said coach Joe Damon about his star hurler after Monday's victory.

The following night, Damon turned to the flamethrower again to close down the night in Sparta. White County still had no answers for Gudat - she struck out three in a row in the fifth inning of a 14-0 victory.

With a big week in the circle, Gudat now has 61 strikeouts in just 30 innings of work. She also has lowered her ERA to 3.27 - a team-best. Gudat isn't shabby at the plate either. She's hitting .385 this season with seven RBIs. Gudat had one hit and one RBI in Tuesday's win at Sparta.

Ceilee Gudat has been special for the Lady Pioneers this season. She has thrown three no-hitters, all coming in her last five starts.
