Donathan and DJ Lewis, WCHS/WCMS football

Week of May 16-22

Nobody enjoyed being back at Nunley Stadium Saturday more than brothers Donathan and DJ Lewis. Both were standouts in spring scrimmages for their respective teams, with Donathan leading the White Team to a 21-7 victory in the WCHS spring game, while DJ was electric in a 21-21 tie during the WCMS scrimmage.

The Pioneers are looking to restock their roster and Donathan, a rising sophomore, looked like he could be a feature performer on both sides of the ball. Donathan showed off his track speed in Saturday's nightcap, reeling in a 77-yard TD pass from Nathan Elrod for the longest play from scrimmage in the workout.

Donathan also showed he can get it done running the ball, scoring on an 11-yard run as well. Lewis had plenty of shake around the edge, maneuvering around two defenders before scooting into the endzone.

Donathan also had an interception and delivered a few big hits from his safety position.

The older brother's big night came after DJ had took over the WCMS scrimmage at times. DJ made sure everybody knew he could make plays from the first time he touched the ball - he scored on a 30-yard run on the first play from scrimmage for his White Team.

DJ also had a chance to stretch his legs on a big play as well, gaining the edge and flying down the sideline for a 70-yard touchdown.

Saturday concluded an impressive spring for the Lewis family. Both Donathan and DJ had outstanding runs with the WCHS and WCMS track teams, as did their older brother Devans Lewis. Devans broke the WCHS school record in the 400 meters earlier this month and advanced to the sectionals. DJ was named to the All-CTC track team and Donathan was part of three relay teams that made it to sectionals for WCHS.
