Security Federal Athlete of the Week: Dec. 26 - Jan. 8

Partnering with Security Federal, the Warren County Sports Authority will honor a standout local athlete each week. The WCSA and the Friendliest Bank in Town love seeing great athletic achievement and there are plenty to pick from every week in Warren County. From winter to summer, spring to fall, and on courts, fields, diamonds, dance floors and anywhere else an athlete can succeed, Security Federal and the Sports Authority are going to be on the lookout for the best of the best!

Lady Pioneer Brienne Kelsey

The WCHS girls basketball team has been unbeatable for over a month and junior guard Brienne Kelsey has been be huge part of the domination. The smooth-shooting lefty has added a vital element to the offense, canning triples from all over the place as the Lady Pioneers have won 11 in a row.

Kelsey has only grown more confident throughout the season, getting the ultimate green light from coach Anthony Lippe to launch at will. Her shooting hit another level in Florida, where the Lady Pioneers captured the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational Championship.

Kelsey hit 13 triples over three games, setting the tone for a trio of blowouts for Warren County against teams from the Sunshine State. Kelsey started the tournament in style, hitting four 3-pointers in the first quarter of the first game. She never slowed down from there, continuing to fire away from deep as Warren County won its three games by a combined 141 points.

Leaving the sun and beach didn't cool off Kelsey either. Last week, Kelsey hit four more 3-pointers as the Lady Pioneers downed Siegel 51-31. In the four games after Christmas, Kelsey has led the team in scoring three times (she's scored in double figures all four games as well).

Kelsey is currently third on the team in scoring (9.3 ppg) and leads the Lady Pioneers in 3-pointers made this season. Her hot shooting has helped Warren County forge into the top 10 in the state in the Tennessean's rankings. The Lady Pioneers debuted at No. 10 this week in the AAAA polls.

Warren County will try to keep it rolling tonight, Jan. 11 in its District 6AAAA debut against Shelbyville. The Lady Pioneers will be traveling to face the Lady Eagles, then will return home Friday for a top-10 clash with No. 9 Coffee County at Charlie Dalton Gym.
