Security Federal Athlete of the Week: May 22-28

Partnering with Security Federal, the Warren County Sports Authority will honor a standout local athlete each week. The WCSA and the Friendliest Bank in Town love seeing great athletic achievements and there are plenty to pick from every week in Warren County. From winter to summer, spring to fall, and on courts, fields, diamonds, dance floors and anywhere else an athlete can succeed, Security Federal and the Sports Authority are going to be on the lookout for the best of the best!

Lady Pioneer Ally Beneke

Our final Security Federal Athlete of the week for the 2021-22 school year is Ally Beneke, the newest state champion for Warren County. The junior claimed her title last Thursday, May 26 at the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro, soaring over the competition in the high jump to take the top spot on the podium.

Beneke, who attends DeKalb County High School but co-ops with the Lady Pioneers, had a nearly flawless run to the state title, clearing 5-foot-6 on her second attempt to hold off Nolensville’s Elise Dobson and the rest of the field of 15 athletes from across Tennesee.

At the event, Beneke didn’t have a scratch on her attempts until she had got to the winning height. After she was the only athlete to clear the 5-foot-6 bar on a rainy day in the ‘Boro, she decided to have fun late and try to leap over 5-foot-8. Three tries came and went, but there was no disappointment as she got her medal minutes later and stood tall as the school’s first individual state champion in over 40 years.

It is believed that Beneke is the first Lady Pioneer to claim an individual state title since the WCSH was opened in 1969. Scott Haile was the last Pioneer to win a state title, claiming a golf championship in 1980-81.

Beneke is already the school’s record holder in the high jump, setting the new mark at 5-foot-7 in an event at Cookeville earlier this season. Last year, Beneke broke Linsey Cornelius previous school record that had stood for nearly 20 years.

Good news for Warren County fans – Beneke will get a chance to defend her title next year. She’ll be back as a senior and hopefully ready to soar to new heights.
