Security Federal Athlete of the Week: Oct. 16-22

Partnering with Security Federal, the Warren County Sports Authority will honor a standout local athlete of the week. The WCSA and the friendliest bank in town love seeing great athletic achievement and there are plenty to pick from every week in Warren County. From winter to summer, spring to fall, and on courts, fields, diamonds, dance floors, and anywhere else an athlete can succeed, Security Federal and the Sports Authority are going to be on the lookout for the best of the best!

Athlete of the Week: Nate Elrod

Nate Elrod started and finished his senior night with a bang last week against Franklin County. The star Pioneer took the opening kickoff 68 yards and caught a 66-yard touchdown pass on the final play for Warren County, putting together everything he could to try to get his team a win. Unfortunately, the Pioneers didn't win -- Franklin County did 41-21, but it wasn't for lack of effort on Nate's part.

As one of the two dozen seniors honored before the game, Elrod was really motivated to come out with a win. He did a little bit of everything to be a headache for the Rebels. Elrod finished with 321 total yards, including two touchdown catches (one was 18 yards), 138 kick return yards, 65 yards passing and 34 yards rushing.

He was also really good on defense, getting nine stops and breaking up a pair of passes and nearly coming down with a high flying interception on a deep ball. It was a big time performance for the senior in front of a packed crowd celebrating seniors from all the fall sports.

Coach Matt Turner has had a lot of good things to say about Nate all year and he was again very complimentary of his senior athlete after last week's game.

"Nate has helped in every way possible this year. He just wants to help us win and doesn't care where he plays to do it," said Turner. "He started out at quarterback for us and did a good job. Now that he has played more receiver, he's got a few more chances to show off his speed and athleticism. He can do so many things well."

The two touchdown catches against Franklin County, with one showing off his speed on a deep ball and the other showing off his leaping ability on a jump ball at the pylon, were Elrod's first two scores through the air this year. He also has thrown for three touchdowns and rushed for six more, giving him a team high 11 TDs this season.

Going into the last game of the year, Elrod leads the team with 300 yards receiving, is second on the team with 421 rushing yards and has thrown for 250 yards. Elrod now has 971 yards from scrimmage this season. He should get to 1,000 yards against Lebanon on Friday night. Adding in his return yards, Elrod has already made it over 1,000 yards this year, but he can still get more against the Blue Devils.

It is going to be tough to watch Elrod and the rest of the seniors play their final game Friday night. Hopefully the whole team can have a performance like Nate did last week. He was great!
