Security Federal Athlete of the Week: Oct. 9-15

Partnering with Security Federal, the Warren County Sports Authority will honor a standout local athlete of the week. The WCSA and the friendliest bank in town love seeing great athletic achievement and there are plenty to pick from every week in Warren County. From winter to summer, spring to fall, and on courts, fields, diamonds, dance floors, and anywhere else an athlete can succeed, Security Federal and the Sports Authority are going to be on the lookout for the best of the best!

Athlete of the week:

Beckham Scott, WCHS kicker

There aren't many people who have more Pioneer pride and love for their community than Beckham Scott. You will see him at an abundance of sporting events, putting on pep rallies and - of course - on the football field on Friday nights.

Scott played soccer for many years before deciding to make the transition to football. He is now the kicker for the WCHS football team and has made an immediate impact the last two seasons. Although he may not always get a ton of opportunities for field goals, he gets to kick off and also drills extra points.

This year, he has had a great year and last Friday night against Shelbyville he accounted for 7 points. He made all four extra points, along with a 31 yard field goal. For the year, Scott has been Mr. Automatic when given the opportunity. He has made three field goals, all coming in the last three games. His 31-yarder against the Golden Eagles is his longest this year, but he also had a 22-yard make against Coffee County on homecoming and hit from 23 yards vs. Siegel.

Scott has also nailed 18 extra points this year, making him a big threat offensively for the Pioneers.

"Beckham stepped up for our program last year and continues to improve," said coach Matt Turner. "We had moments in the preseason where we were pushing him back to 40 yards and beyond and he had enough leg. He's given us the option to make that call in the red zone and he's taken advantage of his opportunities."

Be sure to come support Scott and the rest of Squad 54’s senior class on Thursday vs. Franklin County. Senior night festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. with the game starting at 7 p.m.!
